Do it.. the dealer shouldn't charge more the $60 total. It's a 10 minute job and at 40k, you are near the end of its life. Mine lost a piece of the cover at 42k, so I had it replaced. The old belt was certainly ready for fialure. In my case the rubber of the belt was dry and extremely cracked. When let to go, small pieces of the rubber start coming off, and then you start to score the pulley, leading to more money if they need replacing when the belt toasts. Also, when the belt goes, the car will die and you will be stranded. I saw the mechanic do the job, and I supose if I had paid attention I could have easliy done it again. Its cheap enough to let the dealer do it, inspect the pulleys and get it all done right. I left the dealer saying that Saab should start to reccomend that the Belt be minutely inspected at 35k with the reccomondation to change it then or at the 40k point... its just too cheap not to do it considering the consequences of breakage or additional component wear.
