It has a wide chisel-like blade and works like a reciprocating saw. They go at the windshield from the inside and cut into the adhesive. Then lift the window out, often with suction cups. They can usually get it out without breaking the glass, but not always.
You could maybe do something similar.
But before you devote a few hours to this, see what a new, professionally installed windshield will cost. It might be less than you think. I know that one for my 9K is under $200. And depending on your insurance, whether it will cover new glass.
