That's what it really comes down to. Viggens are rare, and in REALLY good shape, even rarer. Prices seem to be going up, despite the trend of SAAB prices dropping. I've been keeping an eye open for a convertible to match my '02 Coupe without much luck in what I'm looking for (colour, year, conditions, etc.). So if this car matches what you want and it really is in good condition (no cracks in the leather on the driver's seat or booster wear, shift knob not all worn, missing trim bits, rust, accents and/or dents, etc...), the price is not too high. Just check the prices for Viggens on this forum in the classifieds. Yes deals can be had but usually with an element of risk....how much risk are you comfortable with? Also remember than Viggen specific parts are getting rare, namely trim bits, so take that into account. Brake parts, engine parts that are common to the 9.5, etc., are not an issue. So torn seats are a much bigger issue than needing new brake rotors.
Now, one thing you said worries me ".....has close to 80K on the engine....". That makes me think the body has more? Has the engine been replaced or rebuilt? Either would be a deal breaker for me and would have me talking down the price.
How motivated is the seller? I've found answering ads where sellers have asked higher than average prices well worth the effort. Sometimes people just think they did their research properly and once they're shown that they are asking too much, usually accept a reasonable offer.
Lastly, how many owners? If more than 2, including the current owner, I'd also tend to think the price is too high. If the seller is the original owner and he's taken good care of the car, I'd go for it!
