Anders,
I think I've encountered a similar issue before.
In my cases, the 'thunk' has felt like the engine cutout briefly, first time it happened, I thought the car had died or the transmission had slipped.
In my cases, it was always with premium (octane 93 available here in midwest) fuel, Wide Open Throttle (WOT) in 3rd or 4th merging on the highway.
You mention the Boost Control Valve, would it be expected that this part should be able to handle higher octane and be able to 'adapt' and keep the car within it's operating range? Or would that happen even with a properly functioning BCV since 93 octane is beyond typical premium, and it just can't MAP that far in the fuel tables?
(wondering if my instance is because of a marginal component, or because I was being overly assertive with the right achillees)
