Leaky hatch Posted by aizzo [Email] (#1220) [Profile/Gallery] (more from aizzo) on Thu, 27 Feb 2014 08:21:07 Members do not see ads below this line. - Help Keep This Site Online - Signup |
We just acquired a 1997 900SE. We took it through the car wash and water came running down from between the roof and top of the hatch opening. My son got in the trunk and I sprayed the hose along the joint and he could clearly see that the water was coming in between the hatch lid and the weather stripping almost dead center of the hatch (below the washer nozzel, but I don't think that's the issue, just using that as a point of reference).
If we push up on the weather stripping and close the gap, no water gets in.
The weather strip looks to be in good condition (no cracks, nice and flexible, etc) and I've even replaced the weather stripping, but with no change. I don't see any evidence of damage to the hatch, hatch opening, or hatch hinges.
So, what are the thoughts on how to remedy this?
I was thinking about using some silicon sealant (or something like that) and affixing a section of nylon rope into the inside gap of the weatherstripping to push it up against the hatch.
Thanks!
Alan
