Stage 1, spark plugs and DIC, oh my! Posted by NCCaniac [Email] (#352) [Profile/Gallery] (more from NCCaniac) on Tue, 15 Apr 2014 08:46:20 Members do not see ads below this line. - Help Keep This Site Online - Signup |
I have a 2000 9-3 base model and I applied the MapTun Stage 1 (from StateOfNine.com) about a year ago to bring the HP up to the SE level (185hp to 205hp). It has been running fine, but the last two mornings, after the car had sat all night, I got a P1334 CEL, but did not any other codes or notice any other performance issues the rest of the day....both running errands and after the car sat in the parking lot at work all day.
I am wondering if it could be I need new plugs as something about these plugs is confusing the DIC causing it throw that code? (I can't remember exactly how many miles there are on this set of plugs.) What got me wondering this is looking through this forum it mentioned that the normal plug is the NGK BCPR6ES-11 (or BCPR6ES) but that some people need to use the BCPR7ES-11 (or BCPR7ES) for hotter weather or more "spirited" driving. Since I did not change the plugs after the Stage 1 upgrade, could that be it?
I also saw some conflicting information in that the BCPR6/7ES plugs were used in the NG900 and 9-3 up through 1999, but 2000-2002 used different NGK plugs from the factory (T7 on). But I thought I have also read that the DIC has to use the NGK copper core plugs to work properly.
So, anyone with a 2000-2002 9-3 have any recommendations of what NGK plugs you use with a stage 1 tune (or I guess SE models for that matter also)? Swedecar...care to comment?
