First of all, they break easily. I usually spray them with WD40. If they are working free then a small screw driver under the bottom or top of the red side. You will see a relief where a small screw driver will fit. However, as it is likely stuck, soak it with spray a couple of times and then tap lightly on the red tabs sticking slightly out of the back side. Then as the red part comes forward allow or pull the halves apart. They're a good coupling but figuring them out at first can be a challenge. The little detentes on the side break easily. Once you open it they usuall work much better the second time.
