The HVAC system malfunctioned constantly pretty much from the day the car drove off the lot. I'd take it to the dealer under warranty and they'd "grease the shaft" - probably happened a dozen times in four years. Then, after the warranty expired, Saab magically updated the fix to a brand new HVAC control panel, which cost close to $2000.00. If you can call that a niggly item - on a 4 year old car, mind you - I envy you! Anyway, Saab wouldn't budge and neither would I (I was a grad student in Florida at the time so I just lived with it because I didn't change it off "cold air" but once or twice a year).
As for the rest of the stuff, it varies...but a lot of it has come up over the past few years where I simply didn't want to tinker with it myself or pay retail to do it on top of the other stuff that has been done (power steering hoses, radiator, water pump, brakes, etc) to keep a 14, 15, 15, 17 year old Saab on the road.
The suspension has had plenty of work over the years - it's obviously not original at 17+ years and almost 200k miles. It definitely needs new struts/springs though.
And as I said, you can get out of the car fine, it's just that part of the handle is broken off. Quite frankly, I don't think Bill Murray "What About Bob?" types (who would freak out about being trapped) are going to be looking for a car like this anyway......and if they were, that would be among the least of their worries hahaha.
This is an old Saab with no rust and a strong motor/tranny that definitely needs a bit of TLC, but could make a great winter beater or engine donor etc. Obviously a limited market, I know, but not entirely fanciful, as the other poster intimated. Hell, the brand-new-in-the-box OEM (not Chinese) direct ignition unit in the hatch is worth more than $200 ;)
