It is not harmful IF done properly. It will be hard to adjust. For a good portion of it's adjustment range, the ECU BPC and MAP will just compensate for it. You do get a pressure increase when you overwhelm the ECU's feedback system. At this point you are getting close to eliminating the ECU completely from pressure control, as I and others have done with external boost controllers.
As you increase the boost, you may hit the fuel cut pressure at about 15psi of boost. This is rather shocking for you, but relatively harmless for the system. This may be 40 or 50% thru the red on your boost indicator.
By the way, that is not a vacuum line that you are talking about, it sees atmosperic pressures and higher. Don't do anything to the vacuum line that goes from the MAP to the manifold. If you compromise this, you risk lean fuel air ratios and destructive knock.
When you increase boost pressures, you should be using a K&N and a low restriction exhaust. Keep plugs in good shape, injectors and combustion chambers clean with Techron Concentrate. All of this helps keep temperatures down and helps prevent pinging. Use premium fuel. Reduce other intake restrictions at the throttle body transition casting and the turbo compressor discharge silencer if your ?MODEL/YEAR? has one.
You can get a decent high performance external boost controller for $95 delivered. But don't go there with stock intake and exhaust systems.
