My 2001 9-3 is going into limp home mode all the time now. In a search for solutions I have replaced throttle body, DIC, plugs, vaccuum hoses, and also replaced the fuel pump and filter. So far I am thousands of dollars into a thousand dollar car and it's still not reliable enough to drive across town. Is there any way (soldering/cutting/bypassing,etc.) to defeat limp home mode?
At my current level of frustration I would be satisfied to leave a brick on the throttle until it blows up if it would just run long enough without hitting a fuel cutoff at 2200 rpm.
My only consistent symptom is a check engine light for evap/vacuum system, and that goes away whenever I pull the fuses long enough to reset the limp home. Some times when I start the car the revs will head up to three thousand plus, but then I pull the ECU fuses for a couple of minutes and all is back to normal again. Nothing is a clear indicator of when it will decide to fail.
