Similar car here, '01 5 door, gun metal gray, bought CPO around the same time, similar mileage. ~130k now. I moved on to an AWD sedan for my daily driver, but still keep the Viggen for fair-weather drives. And I have done some upgrades over the years, so it's bit more fun than when originally purchased.
I'm not sure what you mean by the "pretty much at the point, personally, where it's not quite worth" part. If the car is in good shape, then for sure it is worth fixing, but are you saying that you want to get something else?
The true condition of the body is probably a big unknown here, as hidden rust could potentially make the car worth quite a bit less, given your location. Also, if the A/C failure is such that you need to replace most of the system, then that can weigh in on the decision somewhat.
All in all, if you had to throw $5k at this car to get it back on the road, I don't see that as being a huge deal if you plan to keep the car for another few years or so. Just go shopping for used cars for $5k and see what you can get. I doubt you'd find much compelling at that price point. $10k-$15k, now you're talking. Maybe something German and AWD???
My Viggen is really more of an old friend I don't want to part with, but I do justify keeping it around by throwing out some stories here and there. One winter, I did blow the clutch on the Audi, and I just said forget it, I'm not waiting in line 4 weeks to ultimately pay the stupid prices at the local import shop, so I parked it for maybe 4 months until I could borrow a friend's shop and drove the Viggen instead. Just that alone saved me about $3k. And in full disclosure, I blew the transmission in the Viggen that spring before I could get the Audi back on the road, so I had to drive the '85 Chevy truck for few weeks even. We're all joined at the hip now...
