Sorry, I'm late to the thread, but what I did not see discussed was the reason why the coolant was gone, so here it is: When the belt failed (sometimes the idler pulleys seize and cause the belt to go, sounds like you fixed all that) the water pump stopped turning along with the power steering pump and alternator (and AC compressor) - they are all driven by the same belt. Since you continued to drive, the engine overheated (due to no water pump) and the coolant, or some of it, boiled away and went out the overflow tube (some ended up on your garage floor). Overheating to the point of the coolant disappearing can seriously damage the engine - hopefully you are lucky and that did not happen, but on the other hand you may have the opportunity shortly to DIY the head gasket.
