I really have a concern that the lower control arms and stanchion arms needed to be replaced--are they bent? I will bet the bushings need to be replaced only. If the arms have movement, its probably the bushings. I had everything replaced due to the same noises, but it didn't come close in costs to what Saab is quoting you. I purchased all parts from eEuro and had an Indy do for half the labor cost.
Now get this, after everything was replaced, I still had the noise, clicks and clunks! First, it was the Transmission mount that was bad--replaced that--clunks went down about 50%. Then I checked the bushings on the steering rack. I had a 1/4" of play on both--that turned out to be the main problem. I bought a $21 Kit and replaced the bushings myself in 20 minutes. No more clunking or clicks!
In addition to checking all the bushings in both the arms and steering, you might want to check the "gland nut" on top of your strut. Mine were turned out 2 threads and rusty, but weren't the cause. Some people on this site have said it is a possible noise contribution.
Good Luck and let me know your conclusion.
