I did something stupid. I read about how the new idler pulleys don't come with a lot of grease from the factory and that it would be good to pack it with more grease (as per the BB). I took a brand new idler pulley and tried to remove the seals and damaged them. How dumb do I feel?
The ball bearing shop told me the ball bearing is very cheap but cannot be removed from the pulley and that the seals aren't sold separately. He told me I'd have a very hard time putting the seals back in (but I don't believe him since many people here have done it).
What I am thinking is getting someone here to ship me a couple used idler pulleys in generally good condition that have those green seals and I will try to salvage them. Perhaps I'm better off accepting a loss and getting a new pulley but from people's accounts on here, it's not lost.
If that's the case, can someone send me two (in case I mess one up) idler pulleys that I can use to pull out the seals from? I will pay for shipping and handling costs.
