I think the difference in tuning is due to consumer taste, doesnt have anything to do with "challenge factor". North Americans like a more plush ride. Europeans prefer to feel the road a bit more. Also, auto tranny's are very rare in europe, over here automatics are predominant. Manufacturers design cars so that they will be easier to sell/more appealing.
