ya, i would for sure replace the sensor I doubt they(insurance ) would total it for an airbag! why would you think that? there are many sources for airbags! e europarts said it would be $ 399 for the airbag they have the sensor didn't get that price any decent upholstery shop can re-stitch the seat. chicken little the sky is falling ! don't make a mountain out of a molehill! BOY ! bet that did get your attention! we were driving my wifes honda around for awhile w/ the Takata "it's a Japanese hand grenade " airbag ! they actually said, "oh better not have anyone sit in the front passenger seat"! (Honda has a switch so you could turn it off ! ) now it's been replaced! I had to take the steering wheel airbag off to fix the cruise control switch and was nervous! unplugged the battery, grounded myself , wore safety glasses, a face shield over a full face helmet and a thick piece of oak as a shrapnel shield chest protector !Looked like a bomb disposal tecnitian and felt patently silly ! (especially when nothing happened ! ) when you put the new sensor in you could wire a bulb or buzzer for awhile to see if it was "going off " to make sure! sounds like a freak accident ! (or a bad sensor ! ) everyone that can, should get collector car insurance! no hassles, no deductible .agreed value and cheaper than regular! you could just get a seat (or two ) fr a junkyard I know someone that got 2, 9-5 seats for $200 fr a pick and pull !( he sold them to me and I had them shipped by greyhound fr Connecticut ! to Tucson, az ) Goldwing and mile high etc (used parts )will be a LOT more !
