It takes about 25 minutes idling in the driveway at 65F ambient to get the trans to the 80C indicated for a fluid check, FWIW. It's several miles of driving on a cold engine, but only 3-4 on a hot engine. Tech 2 will tell you the trans temp, an IR temp gun on the case is not representative of fluid temp in my experiments.
The procedure is get the trans to 80C, shift to PRNDP lingering at least two seconds in each gear. This ensures that fluid is in all the various circuits and the pan level is correct. Fluid is checked idling in P.
