Long time lurker on the 9-5 area and a recent owner of a 99 9-3 convertible. I recently purchased a 99 9-3 as a project car needing some repairs for cheap.
It was actually at a non Saab shop and they recommended battery(dead), ignition switch(not returning to run after start), starter(suspect worn bendix from ignition switch problem) and a bad alternator. Fast forward a week and battery, ignition switch and voltage regulator later this thing is road worthy with the exception of the xmas light parade on display on the dash( triangle warning, abs, brake! and airbag). I can't recall if the car had the airbag warning light before I disassembled the center console for the ignition switch(electrical portion). One other clue was after I replaced the ignition switch the shift lock solenoid would not release when trying to shift out of park unless I pushed the manual release next to the selector. After fiddling with it a bit I just decided to defeating the system by breaking the small plastic piece that connects the solenoid to the selector.
Can anyone think of ANY connector or component in the center console area that might cause any of the messages ?
Will diagnosis require a tech 2 or can someone suggest another scanning platform that might help troubleshoot further ?
