Embarrassed to post this in a way but it might help others in the future.
I recently purchased a 2001 93 Viggen. I rolled the dice and flew to pick up car only seeing photos. I was able to drive car home 6 hours and that was obviously a relief. Once home I decided to tackle what seemed to be long term oil leak, the engine bay was a mess of caked on oil with signs of leaks on driveway.
Car had updated PCV 6 installed, I removed valve cover and re-torqued head bolts installed new gasket for valve cover. Oil seemed to be coming from chain tensioner area. Long story short I finally tested (I've had car 4 weeks) the white PCV one way valve and it was installed backwards! UGH now all I can think about is for how long it was like this, obviously it's been a while due to the 5 cans of brake cleaner I needed to clean engine bay. Oil blow by from multiple areas was happening.
I'll keep eye on any leaks now and crossing fingers no seals have been blown from dumping pressure into the valve cover. What long term damage could be done from this? Would the computer manage/compensate for the reversal of PCV install?
Turbo boosted OK before, now it's a lot better, no smoke from tailpipe so far. Don't tell my family but figuring this out today was best Christmas present I could get :-)
Here is how to test correct direction of white PCV one way valve FYI-
blow into hose from left side of white one way valve, air should pass through. Suck on same hose and no air should pass.
You can also start car, put a latex glove or ziplock bag (rubber band around it to keep tight) on oil filler tube with dipstick out and see if air fills glove/bag or if glove/bag gets sucked down oil filler tube. You want the bag/glove to get sucked down FYI. It's good to have a helper holding glove/bag so it doesn't get sucked down tube.
