Removed trunk liner on passenger side. Located piston, hydraulic lines, electric harness. Everything looked normal, no evidence of any loose connections or leaks. Shear pin (machine screw) was intact.
Noted the entire cylinder was a bit loose on bottom end. Lower retaining pin (1 3/4") had wire clip on inboard end but was protruding about 3/8" inwards toward the inside of the truck. I easily slid it out. Nothing was securing the outboard (right, tapered end) of the pin. No clip or wire retaining springs on the floor of the trunk. What secures this pin on the outboard (toward the right wall of the trunk) to keep it in place. Is it a U shaped clip nut? The groove is swallower than the inboard end where the wire clip fits. The groove measures about 9.2mm. The fact that the cylinder was not secure on the bottom means that it and everything connected to it moved considerably when the piston was energized. Perhaps this prevented the microswitch from functioning normally?
