You should be able to tell fairly easily what condition the mounts are in. Take the fender liners out and you can look to see if the bolt is still centered in the mount on the passenger's side (if it's below the hole, your mount is toast), and if everything still looks intact on the driver's side. That mount is hollow and can be very easily diagnosed visually. Looks for tears or signs of oil leakage on the rear mount. The cable around it keeps it from coming apart, but it will still rip in two and leak oil.
If you put your car up on jacks, you ought to be able to shake the exhaust and see where it's hitting. You may have to shake it all the way in the back to make sure the muffler isn't hitting something, and in the middle. There should be no movement at the front since the downpipe is bolted to the engine in two places.
I agree that if the car is running fine, then there's no reason to think there's anything wrong with the intercooler.
