I finally got around to taking off the trim on the inside of the hatch to get a look at the lock mechanism and see if there was anything obviously broken. On inspection, nothing looked broken or missing, so I manually moved the lock lever and it seemed to both latch and unlatch. I then tried closing the hatch and using the keyfob to to lock the doors....and lo and behold, the match lock operated as normal. Not sure if something was just stuck or what, but manually moving things around a bit must have got things moving again. So....best thing was I did not have to order any parts and only reassemble the trim.
