17" wheels rubbing Posted by Nick [Email] (#227) [Profile/Gallery] (more from Nick) on Wed, 25 Apr 2001 23:58:40 Members do not see ads below this line. - Help Keep This Site Online - Signup |
I have just put 17" Borbet wheels w/ 215/45 Firestone Firehawk SZ50 EP's on my 96 SET which has Abbott springs and Koni adj'able shocks. While I love the upgraded handling, the rear wheels contact the forward lip of the fenders when I hit a highway bump at speed and the car bottoms. The fender lip is being bent outward and my outer tread is being sliced up to the depth of about 1/16". The negative camber on the rears is correct. Tire Rack says that they have never encountered this before and will take back the wheels and tires for full credit. I hate to give up the larger wheels and wider tires for 16" 205/50's, but short of rolling the lips, I can't see any other solution. I know owners out there are running w/ the plus sized wheels and tires! Any ideas would be appreciated.
