Alternator failure too early

I have 2 1997 Saab 900's. One is an S and one is an SE. Both needed to have there alternators replaced at 50,000 miles. The 900S just had the alternator go out at 90,000 miles. So that is 2 for that car. Saab agreed to pay for the alternator but I have to pay for the labor. I am wondering if there is some type of issue here with Alternators that Saab is ignoring. Is this a common problem or just bad luck on my part?
