vibration under acceleration Posted by MJM [Email] (#872) [Profile/Gallery] (more from MJM) on Fri, 23 Nov 2001 17:03:56 Members do not see ads below this line. - Help Keep This Site Online - Signup |
Here's the scenario:
There is a strong vibration in the steering wheel at ~73mph when the engine is under load (like accel. conditions). The vibration goes away when I lift off the throttle, _or_ when turning during accel. Accel. at other speeds does not produce a vibration, or at least not one this noticible.
I've been chasing a vib. problem for a couple of months now. First it was a whole car vib at ~55 and ~75, rebalancing took care of most of that.
Multiple trips to the dealer and an indie Saab shop haven't turned up any loose/bad front end pieces, even though there are occasional clunks, pops, snaps and clicks from the front end. The clicks occur with the car stationary while turing the wheel, the other noises occur randomly. There are no apparant noises when the car turns corners, etc.
I'm thinking it's either CV joints or strut mounts, but it seems to early to have CV problems and I've been specifically told that the strut mounts are fine. Of course......
Thoughts?
thanks, Mike
