Oil analysis can be a valuable tool, but it isn't the end-all. A single sample may show abnormalities, but the best way is to run series of samples which can show trends, or changes from normal.
Oil analysis will show increased iron wear in terms of parts per million, but can't tell you exactly which part of the engine is wearing. A regular analysis doesn't show large particles--
If you aren't running a synthetic, you probably ought to be. Oil analysis over the last 30 years has shown dramatic reductions in wear when using synthetic compared to non-synthetic.
Side benefit of oil analysis is determination of an appropriate drain interval for your oil.
