In a stock vehicle with h-rated all-season tires. I was able to keep a guy in the latest generation Toyota Supra behind me at the track. After runs he would even comment to me that it was funny seeing the inside rear wheel lift as we went around the really tight corners or hopped the curbing. The next weekend I went, a young lady in a new Z3 were neck and neck for lap times. In the same group only the very hottest shoes were faster.
I'm not claiming to be a "good" driver but the instructors I had all commented to me that the car was very capable, it only needed more rear roll resistance (stiffer sway bar or springs) to help keep the copious amounts of body roll in check. Eventually, I got Swedish Dynamics springs to remedy the body roll. However, the car has been relegated to commuter statsu when the M3 was bought. But it is still a fun car to cummute in!
