We had the same squirrelly noise - 95 SE V6 Conv. 75K. I replaced almost everything to get rid of it.
To remove the serp belt:
Remove the air cleaner, MAF, and rubber intake. Use a 15MM wrench on the tensioner (rear upper) pulley nut, push down (clockwise) to slacken the belt and pull it free.
Alternately -this is my method after many removals- use a 15MM socket, rotate downwards, then pull the serp belt off and place it on the socket, then release slowly. Installation is the reverse, route the belt via diagram in glovebox manual (make sure the belt is seated in the grooves or it won't be long enough), place the socket on the nut, with the belt over the socket, rotate down, pull the belt over onto the pulley.
Rotate all the pulleys, feel for an up/down or in/out motion or coarseness, look for grease exiting the idler pulleys, also if a idler/tensioner pulley spins too fast/freely, then it is out of grease.
I replaced the belt, idler pulley, tensioner pulley, water pump, and then found we had a noisy timing belt tensioner and had it replaced. This stopped almost all the noise. We still have a slight noise from the power steering pump, but I can live with it.
Other things to check for:
Old/glazed/cracked serp belt.
Low power steering fluid.
