HELP!!! Pedal came off

I have a '96 900s. I was recently driving down the street, when I placed my foot on the clutch pedal to downshift, and the pedal came off. I was in the middle of the street, and the car stalled on me. I tried to push the clutch in without the pedal and it went all the way to the floor. I snapped the pedal back on but it still goes to the floor. A tow truck man somehow started the car and put it in first without the clutch/or shifting gears. I have to take it to get fixed on monday and was wondering if anyone could suggest what to listen for when talking to the mechanic...the tow man said that it didn't need a new clutch (or gearshift) because it was driveable...I am afraid that they are going to try to get me to pay for the works when it may be something minor...I would appreciate any help or suggestions that anyone could offer
