Well, he (very nicely) tried everything to get it passed, he even tried to get DEQ to use a different test (for older cars), but the law states that newer than 1996 must use the advanced OBD testing, as it tests for more than just the 3 you mentioned. So he wants to get Saab to fix it as it is nobody's fault but thiers if it is a manufactured flaw in the OBD computer. Am I a forerunner here or has anybody else experienced this type of thing in a Saab (or other) and did the mfg fix it themselves? (all moaning about other breakdowns aside -- parts are parts they wear out -- i *REALLY* don't want to pick up a bill for something as inane as this: seriously, is the car polluting? no. what's the probelm? we can't connect to all the computer readouts. why? something wrong with it, saab's mistake somehow. okay, if YOU want to connect to the saab computer, and they didn't make it right...just to convince you that my newish car is clean, then go for it. don't ask me to pay for your new fangled mega expensive way of testing.
I am thinking of buying a new 9-3. I wasn't expecting to see what kind of customer service Saab has, as i have never directly dealt with them, but I guess I'm about to, and I'm sure the experience will determine whether I drive Saabs forever, or bail out on the next car and pop over to the dark side (VW or Japanese)...I do hope it goes well though.
Brian.
