See if you can find out how well the car was maintained. Did the prior owner follow the book, or did he or she just do oil changes? Oil and coolant services are vital to the life of the turbocharger as well as the engine itself. I have the oil changed in my '95 SEt (203K on the clock now!)every 5K and the original turbocharger is still in the car. I've found my car to be very reliable and trouble free. There were troubles out there with the idler pulleys (especially the top pulley)--I had one fail on my car--took a brand new serp belt with it! Saab paid for a new belt and pulleys. Each car seems to have it's own sore spot--the only big problem with my car was the gearbox (blew up at 90K) but Saab took care of that, too. So, if you read thru the posts here, just be aware that what died on some of these cars may never fail on yours.
My best advice to you, Rebecca, is to find a good independent (because the dealer will rip you off at every turn) and follow the maintenance instructions in the owners' manual. And remember--it's not just a car, it's a SAAB!!
Good luck!!
