After blowing a heater hose and having it replaced at an indie, he thought the head gasket was shot...
But, I have WEIRD symptoms. The Low Coolant warning comes on (we refilled coolant after hose r&r to make up for air) almost every time I start the car. However, when cold the coolant is at Kalt. When the engine is slightly warm, it is below Kalt and unscrewing cap causes it to "refill" to Kalt (I cannot tell if it is bleeding or sucking air, though). Temp is fine. BUT, the temp swings much more frequently than it ever has. From 8 oclock to 9 oclock about once per minute (never did this before) and the cabinf heat is not as hot as it was before.
Also, I had the battery replaced at the same time as the hose and now I have really bad fuel economy. I get about 20 mpg no matter how I drive (or so the display says). I notice, though, that the mpg changes about once every 5 seconds. It was never this sensitive before.
What is going on???
Is there bound air in the block/heater core/head? Does the display "forget" stuff after battery is disconnected???
