Someone posted a long time ago that as the clutch facings wear the leverages go wrong which increases forces. ???
If the cable is brocken where the cable terminates in a metal cylinder, then I would suspect that the terminating cylindrical part has been twisting relative to the cable when been operated. This part should be greased to that it can turn as things move.
