is that as a worst case you MIGHT ( I don't know because I haven't tried) have to replace the entire strut tube to go to larger brakes. Best case is that they bolt directly to the caliper bracket (the part that holds the guide pins the calipers slide on). Middle case, and IMO the most likely is that you would need to replace the caliper bracket as well as caliper and rotor.
The last case is most likely because the calipers are probably part of the GM inventory of parts (heck they might even be the same on the later models, it is very possible) and a new caliper bracket with the same bolt pattern to the strut tube is the least disruptive from a part modification and $$$ perspective.
