98 900's are considered the most reliable because everything was upgraded and it has the hydrulic clutch. Many people recommend buying a '99+ 9-3 instead of the ng900 because all the bugs were worked out. V6's supposedly are costly to maintain thanks to Saab's 30k mile change drive belt. If the belt fails severe expenses will follow. Turbos are considered the way to go. Many upgrades are available and some will allow you to upgrade well past 250 hp. The 2.3L or naturally aspirated engine is also reliable but if it has been poorly maintained can develop sludge in the engine which someday will cause the engne to sieze. Records and/or recipts are a must. These allow you to know what's been done in the history of the vehicle. Hope that helps.
