I bought a policy in 2000 to cover my used '96 900se. it was the 7 years or 70,000 miles diamond version. when i called about a recent repair, they said the policy had expired (my mileage is now 72,000). it turns out the 7/70,000 is a mixed metaphor. the 7 years begins the day you buy it, but the 70,000 does not. the expiration is triggered whenever you pass that magic number. i bought mine at 34,000 miles, thinking i was good to 104,000.
obviously, i should have read the fine print.
but what confused me is that i bought a policy for a USED car, but they sold me a NEW car policy (how that's possible, i don't know). the used policy would have given me 70,000 fresh miles, not cumulative ones. i suspect they do this a lot.
last point: the contract language says that for the purposes of the policy, the mileage shall start at 0 (it DOESN'T say the odometer shall start at 0 , which is another matter). doesn't that mean that, if on the date of purchase, when my mileage is at 34,000, and the coverage is for 70,000 miles, i should get to 104,000? i think that's what the language implies.
i'm pondering a fight. but anyway, read your policies carefully.
