As others said, that vintage 900 would probably require serious cash infusions... I'd take a look at the maintenance records and see what has been done up to now to the car.

Our 1995 900S has run up about $3500 in the last year, some were maintenance, admittedly (clutch, brakes, 65000 mile service) some were freak occurences that still took $500 to fix (battery explodes, takes out battery cable + towing), and some were outright SOL (the same week, radiator and unrelated A/C leak). All at the dealer, for lack of a better place.

If you have a good independent shop nearby and/or can fix things, it may not be a bad proposition. But be prepared for $500 surprises every six months, unless these have already taken place.
