It almost sounds as if your car went into "limp-home mode", and yes, that's a real thing. I'd disconnect the battery for a few minutes (even chimps can do that), then reconnect it, see if anything changes. This ought to reset the computer. It's free. Try it first. Do you take care of your car? When was the last time the oil was changed? If I'm correct, (I'm not sure, I hate my NG 900SE too much to give a shit about whats under the hood other then the absolute musts) the alternator runs off the same serpentine belt as everything else, correct? It isn't like the real saabs back in the day that had 2 for the alternator in case one broke, is it? Nothing quite like Chevy's idea of improvments. Good luck. If the battery thing doesn't fix it, just crush the car and use it as a lawn ornament, and force it to stare resentfully at your new BMW for eternity!! Moohahahaha! Those are my intentions. Hell, my 98se has been parked-in by my 87 SPG for at least 3 months now.
