My wife is the avid moviegoer, me not so much, and I was sorta' surprised when she wanted to go to see Avatar on Boxing Day. I bought tickets and she wanted to know if they had it in 3D which the did so we upgraded, got our 3D glasses and enjoyed the ride.

3D I could take or leave, especially for the extra $3.50. It does have some nice touches, but it's also an obvious effect.

Worth seeing for sure for the characters/costumes/creatures as well as the amazing scenery and incredible action photography. But otherwise sorta' simple plot/story action/war movie underneath. The big bad military is going to overrun the Avatar living place and the temporary Avatar lead man organizes the successful revolt and marries the princess along the way, ho hum.....Lotsa' lotsa' war scenes, spears vs guns kinda' thing, how many ways can you kill somebody? Very, very violent, all with the flavor (and the value of life) of a video game, which I don't play.

I can never get enough of Sigorney Weaver and the lead military pig was good. The lead, Sam Worthington, nothing exciting for me. No Oscar performances for sure.

I'm kinda' surprised there wasn't a better story, or ending or moral, or something more than the effects and scenery and action by itself.
