I first heard about this book from my last Boss. His ex-wife was a cousin of JD Vance, and my Boss had been to Me-Ma's home a few times when dating his wife.

I could only handle less than an hour of this film because it reminded me too much of my wife's family. Blue collar poverty, substance abuse, anger management issues, and the entire family trying to drag down and pull back in the sole member with the intelligence and drive to escape - my wife.

Depressing and sad.

I assume JD experienced great success in life prior to writing this autobiography, but he may have had to sever all ties to his Middleton OH and Jackson County KY families to save himself. I never got that far in the movie.
