There are a number of good leather care products on the market. Lexol is widely available and is well regarded. Eagle One's leather care products are excellent. And there are a number of fine products available on the web if you want to mail order.

Don't use stuff like mink oil, neatsfoot oil, lanolin, or aloe on car leather. Some of that stuff is fine for horse tack or work boots but not fine for cars. It'll leave your seats way greasy and oily or it will just sit there and do nothing except get on your clothes.

Silicones are widely misunderstood WRT car care products. Not all silicones are bad. There are over 30,000 formulations for silicone and most every car wax product has some in it. What car painters do not like are the migratory silicone oils like dimethyl silicone. This stuff is used in cheap "tire shine" products and will destroy rubber and plastics over time. It leeches out the protective components in rubber and plastic and accelerates oxidation by eating away plasticizers. For rubber, plastic, and vinyl, stick with water based dressings. If the dressing is milky and watery, its OK for your car.

If you get a chance, LMK what that other stuff is you have in your garage. I remember a seller at the OC Swap Meet that had a huge booth of car detailing supplies that I'd hit up every week. I wonder what happened to him?

If you want a really good local place to buy detailing supplies, check out Detailing Depot in Costa Mesa, on Newport Blvd and 21st St, on the northbound access road.
