The East coast is enjoying a beautful day today!
It's 65-70 and partly cloudy in New York City and I'm home nursing a broken foot. Winter is coming with only two to three days before the temps drop to the forties so I had to take this opportunity to wax the car. I tightened up my plastic boot/cast and got to work.
I went to a hand wash place in Bay Ridge this morning, not too far away from home, and had the car/wheels washed. There really is a difference between the auto wash and the hand treatment aside from the $10 difference. This was the biggest hassle because I don't have access to a hose and driveway. That done with I got to mixing...
I busted out the Klasse kit ($39 from the autogeek at amazon.com (http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0049IVVIO/ref=as_li_tf_tl?ie=UTF8&camp=1789&creative=9325&creativeASIN=B0049IVVIO&linkCode=as2&tag=thesaabnetwork)) and the empty sprayer bottles. I put water in one bottle and one part Klasse Glaze five parts water in the other sprayer bottle. I bought premium terry towels and two microfiber applicators.
Car needed to be clayed but I had to go ahead with the job as is (remember the broken leg in the cam walker). The AIO took 45 minutes and the first layer of glaze took 30 minutes. I left the glaze on for one hour and then buffed out without a problem. I must have used a thin layer because I did not have any hazing problems as described herein. I did apply a bit more to the hood and roof, if I encountered a problem with some dried patches I took the 5parts water/1part SG sprayer to it and it buffed right out. The car looked AMAZING! The blue paint had depth, wetness and clarity.
The AIO did stain the trim so I used bottled water and sponge applicators to scrub it back to black. The second coat of SG glaze stayed on the car for four hours before being buffed off with two premium terrycloth towels. I was a bit worried about dust getting on the vehicle while drying but figured it would sratch the klasse if anything. I did apply glaze to the whole vehicle; lights, door handles, trim, bumper and trim around window as well as the B pillar. The SG glaze does not appear to stain trim and I'm sure the plastic could use the protection for the winter.
It's too dark to take pictures and they are forecasting rain for the next two days but I'm glad I was able to lay down the AIO and two layers of SG before the temperatures drop back to normal.
Question to the knowledgeable;
How many rain/sleet/autowashs cycles can I go through before the AIO/SG wears off? Also, I wanted to follow up with P21S wax in a week or two if I catch another warm day. Handwash and one layer of P21S. Will this help to prolong the life of the SG Glaze layer?
Thanks to that guy who told me to stay away from the detailer and do the job myself. I'm sure I aggrivated my foot and it's now two sizes bigger - but I had a blast, the ride looks real serious, and I'm ready for the rains and snow this weekend (from 65 to 35 in a week). Can't wait for spring.
