CHris, worry less about claying for the first year or so...but DO worry about how you will prevent your black diamond from becoming a halo'd mess...whatever towels you use for drying...don't wipe the water off...BLOT IT OFF. This process is made much easier by using microfiber towels, which are WAY more absorbent than typical terry towels...of course you get what you pay for in terms of MF towels, as well...

I can't comment on the self-drying abilties Mr. Clean, as I haven't experienced it...but do try this with regular car wash detergent toi see if you really need the Mr. Clean. There is a way to minimize the amount of water that remains on the car after washing. The trick is to turn the pressure way down so you only have a dribble (I use "dribble-plus" these days), then use that for a second/final rinse after blasting the soap suds off the car...just try this on your front windshield and you will be startled with how little water remains on the glass...it has to do with the adhesive properties of water...if gently urged to move in a certain direction (rather that blasted with a strong push), the water will move with very much of a sheeting effect, leaving very few drops to blot up. Once you try this on the semi-vertical front windshild, you will be stoked to try it on the flat surfaces...again, just use the dribble to help nudge the water drops from one side of the roof/hood/trunk to the other. They will gather together with their friends and go for a nice little walk over the side. I think when they hear the loud roar of a high-pressure hose coming their way, water molecules tend to hold on for dear life with their watery little hands...thereby leaving gazillions around to be dried up.

Make quite sure that your Chenille mit is very clean, as any grit it retains will be a main cause of micro-marring...and Chenille mitts are known for retaining small grit as they get older. It's not easy to get that stuff out of such a nappy surface. I prefer a $30 Horse-hair brush instead (Eastwood.com has the one I use).

The Mothers Reflections will be fine...the protection won't last as long as some of the newer exotics on the market (ie, Klasse or Zaino-which I use), but one of the joys of new car ownership is the fondling of your new baby that you will be able to do under the guise of (ahem) cleaning it...er, her.

When you apply the Reflections, use straight back-n-forth motions, not circulars. That will also mitigate against the micro-marring. On the side panels (verticals), it's preferred to use vertical motions, not horizontal...something about the way light strikes a vertical surface and doesn't reflect back at the observer in such a way that the spiderwebs are so apparent.

Finally, every time I see shoe polish on a car I giggle...but that's just me.

Hope this helps.
