My sister-in-law founded GenArt SF which is a non-profit with the purpose of introducing younger/emerging artists to a younger generation with the goal of extending art appreciation and collection to successive generations of folks. The nice thing is that the crowds kind of match up... The young emerging artists' work isn't that expensive, often under $100 for a piece. Anyway, since my sis-in-law was the founder, over the years I've gone to a lot of art shows. I'd say I was dragged to a lot of shows, but I wasn't. I would claim, I think rightly so, that I have little 'understanding' of art and most shows contained little that entertained me and even less that I 'got'. However, about two years ago, I was walking through the opening of a big show and found one artist's work from which I couldn't tear myself away... In fact, it was mostly one small painting that I found really great, however it had already been sold, unfortunately.

That xmas, Elle (my wife and senior Saab driver in the house) got me two from this artist and a third for my bday a month later. These are hanging on my office wall and are below. About six months ago, we got a set of four from a show in San Jose. A few weeks ago, I got one I saw on the artist's web site which was used in a show we went to last night. Additionally, Elle got two more at the show.

So, one, I'm excited about these paintings and two, wow, I couldn't have predicted it of myself and three, I felt like writing it up in a post this Friday morning instead of working.
