Another Hockey Question: Shoot Outs... Is this the oldest controversial question in hockey or what?
Should regular season games that end in a tie after overtime go to a shoot out?
My own opinion is - No Way! I don't mind that some games are ties and I can see two ways to decrease the number of ties anyway.
1. What a great thing the NHL did to make OT 4-4 and to make a nothing to lose situation. You have secured your one point for the tie and in OT you can get another point if you score and you don't lose any points. There's no reason not to go all out and a lot of teams put on 3 forwards and only 1 defensemen. Bravo. So, instead of a shoot-out, give us 5 more minutes of OT. Make OT 10 minutes and you'll see a crap load of real hockey scoring to settle a game without going to a shoot-out... and so what, if it is tied, it's tied. It counts very much in the standings.
2. Open the game up again. Higher scores mean fewer ties.
