I have a very low opinion of Scott Stevens. He's an artist at the cheap shot. He keeps his elbow down so nobody can say he doesn't hit cleanly, but 90% of his big hits are late hits and that's just as cheap... and like you say, 100% of them come with intent to injure.
I'd definitely take Neidemeyer though. When the Devils are behind, he will jump up in the play and become more offensive minded. I wish he played like that all the time. Every time Stevens tried to jump up in the play (and it was rare), he would get caught and give up a scoring chance the other way. He's a single-dimensional player. And yes, Ozolinsh is a great example. He was something like +9 going into Game 7. He played his heart out for Anaheim. I haven't seen him play with that much heart in many years. I wish he had the confidence he has now when he was back playing for the Sharks. We might have beaten Toronto after beating the Wings way back when...
