a couple of months ago, I had my 1966 mercedes benz 230sl transported by intercity lines, and had a very good (but not quite great) experience. They were not great about calling me with details, but the car arrived as promised, on time. I guess, in retrospect, their drivers were great, their office support was marginal.
the same day the benz arrived, my wife and I purchased a saab 9-3 viggen conv, and I immediately called intercity to arrange transport from SC to NJ. It took a week for them to give me a quote, they promised pick up the first week in june. When june arrived, they still avoided my calls and emails, and could not tell me when the car would be picked up. Yesterday they said they would try to fit it on a truck, but then told me it wouldn't make it, and would have to wait another week.
When I called again, I was given the run-around...finally, I spoke to the president, I explained, very calmly, how I am also in a service business, and my top priority is to always make sure I fulfill the needs of my customers, I return calls and emails immediately. This guy, the president, had been sitting on an email of mine for half the day with no response, and I called him on it. I had left a voicemail at the same time....no reply.
I told him that I had been promised a pick up the first week in june, and that I had booked the transport 6 weeks ago....at that point I was called a liar. after this, I immediately told him to cancel my order, and found another transporter.
I've had a variety of cars transported over the years, and I know it is a crummy business, but the top-of-the-line transporters should treat their customers better than this...actually everybody should.
just a bit of warning for the rest of you.
