OT: Hosed by Gateway

I purchased a nice, really small Gateway 200 laptop about four months ago. It's been great except for one thing. Immediately, I discovered that the darm thing wouldn't do a hot undock from my docking station properly--you press the undock button, and it throws an error.
Called Gateway, and apparently they shipped these things to a whole bunch of customers with the bug. But they don't yet know how to fix it.
Well, four months later, I get a call from Gateway saying they've solved the problem. Apparently, it's an issue with the version of MusicMatch that the machine ships with. Does simply uninstalling MusicMatch solve the problem? No. THEY ARE ASKING ME TO WIPE THE HARD DRIVE AND REINSTALL EVERYTHING FROM THE GROUND UP. That means I need to reinstall all my apps, reset all my preferences, reload 30 CDs of MP3s, back up and restore all my documents, etc.
I think this is a bunch of crap. For one thing, I can't understand why MusicMatch would even be the problem (and as a result, I don't trust their solution). But going beyond this, is what Gateway asking its customers to do at all reasonable?
Any thoughts?
Thanks,
Sieglo
