I'm suprised how quickly Saab changed the 'form' line-up after only two years of the 02' changes. They are basically saying, Saab is a 'sports sedan brand' and removing the former Arc/SE pretensions for luxury and the former Linear sedan's pretensions for value. Now Saab is saying you North Americans want 'value'? you want 'luxury'? well, you've gotta want 'sports sedan' first.

And, I guess I kind of like this thinking. It's pretty agressive, and obviously is meant to go hand in hand with the branding of the car that has occured and continues to occur with the 9-3SS. I think my only worry is that the new Arc 2.3L and the Aero are possibly too close to each other spec wise. Still, I'm happy to see the Aero get a special body kit and become even more the Saab specialists sports sedan since the current versions are too tame looking for the engine inside.

That leaves the Linear. Sports Sedan cum Sports Wagon seems a good strategy, a good stab at the slightly upscale Subaru buyer.

When it is all said and done though as a comrade in Linear Sedans (02') I think I understand what Jae was getting at, which is basically, not enough of us dummies in North America took advantage of the buy of the last 10 years, meaning the after-incentives-after-negotiation 30k Linear w/Premium Package. What a deal!! We should've known dear Saab was losing its shirt on this one. I feel rather priviledged now to have one!

Anyway, Saab continues to do something agressive. Hopefully its the right move. we gotta think that at the very least it is a move to offer the customer the most product with the most sensible return for Saab rather than just simply pigeoning holing their models into the standard categories developed by other car makers. Let the I4 rule!
