That's what a friend of mine who is a radiologist said when he encountered some attitude the the price he charged for the 30 seconds it took him to read an x-ray of a hand (30+bones, I think).
I'm no locksmith, but can get through simple stuff. The more complicated things they have to know how do do (coding, safes, masterkeying, installations in crappy frames, etc) is beyond me, and most other folks. Cars alone have huge numbers of permutations (assuming it's a real locksmith). It's become a complicated business, and you got him at the low end (plastic shim on the spring lock, maybe).
Yes, you could easily learn to do what he did, if you took a good look at the lock he opened. It probably wouldn't be worth the time to learn how to get into a car without breaking something.
